USB means Universal Serial Bus, developed and invented by Intel in 1996.
There has to date been 4 USB versions, 1.0, 1.1, 2 and 3.
USB 1.0 can operate at 1.5Mbps.
USB 1.1 allowed a maximum transfer rate of 12Mbps, released in 1998.
USB 2.0 has a raw data rate of 480Mbps, released in 2000.
USB 3.0 has up to 4.8Gbps transfer rate, released in 2008.
